In "Road to Sunrise," join Taylor Stewart on a powerful truth and reconciliation road trip across Oregon. The young activist and nonprofit founder is on a mission to raise awareness about the institutional and violent racism dotting Oregon’s past, as well as to build communities centered around healing historic wounds. Stewart first revisits Coos Bay on the southern coast, where he had once successfully lobbied for the creation of a historical marker memorializing the most widely documented case of lynching in Oregon. He then travels to Grants Pass to support a public education campaign to surface the city’s history as a former sundown town — places where Black people were considered unsafe after nightfall.
Content warning: This film discusses the history of racism in Oregon and contains racist slurs as well as violent imagery.
